Default Colorizing B&W images

So I have used PS for a long time but I have never delved into the world of complete colorization of an old b&w picture. I have seen some excellent work and I figured I would give it a try. Please note that this is my first colorization and it is real rough. Any thoughts/comments/feedback good or bad would be greatly appreciated.

Original

Colorized

Thanks all,

Wow. I think you've done an amasing job so far in converting this photo from black and white to colour. Wonderful work.

Default Thanks!

I really appreciate it. I have been staring at the thing for a few hours now and I can't tell if it is good or just my mind playing tricks. It actually was not very hard just very time consuming. I got the idea because there is a photshop contest on fark.com right now that is for coloring a b&w image. Some of the posts were fabulous so I figured I would give it a shot with an easier picture. the image they posted would have been way out of my league to start with but I am glad you think I am goin in the right direction. The image for the contest is here
these are a few of the really good entries:
one
two
three
four
five
six
seven

These are way beyond me but i figured I would try one.

cheers

Not a problem. Those are really nice entries for that contest and dont worry. You'll be there soon if you keep on trying.

I tried something in "First Shot at coloring black and white photo" thread and came out with a pretty awesome colourized version of the girl. You should try out both Body-Count's technique AND Hannu Hurme's technique. They are both great and probally will help you out a bunch. You'd probally enjoy figuring out how to do that sort of stuff better. Just search for that thread in the search bar. It should come up with it.

Keep it up. You'll be great. Your on a pretty dead straight line on where you i believe you want to be in colourizing black and white photos. Just keep at it.
