Brian Wood

Brian Wood is a seasoned web developer and web/print technology trainer. An Adobe Certified Instructor in Acrobat 9 Pro, Illustrator CS4, Dreamweaver CS4, InDesign CS3 and Photoshop CS3, Brian has authored several training books, including "InDesign CS2 Hands-On-Training," "Illustrator CS5 Classroom in a Book", and others, all published by Peachpit Press. He has also authored online training videos for Dreamweaver, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Expression Web and more.

Brian provides corporate training to companies nationwide, and is an active developer. He co-owns AskBrianWood.com, BrianWoodTraining.com, and has a training video blog, BrianWoodTips.com.

Photoshop Power Tips (9:00 - 9:30)

We'll start the day off right by having a power tips and shortcuts session. You'll learn some of the more useful power tips and shortcuts that will save you time and make you more productive in Photoshop every day, right out of the gate.

Selection Magic (9:30–10:30)

Sure you've mastered the Lasso tool, but what happens when you need to select hair? Or what happens when you create a selection and need to edit it? In this part of the day, we'll explore the different methods used for making powerful selections like selecting color range, working with channels for selection, as well as tips and tricks for working with your everyday selection tools like the Magnetic Lasso and more.

BREAK (10:30-10:45)

Layers, Masks and Channels (10:45–12:00)

In this part of the day, we'll explore a series of helpful tips and tricks for working faster and smarter with Photoshop layers. You'll learn various ways to create and edit layer and group masks, including working with vector layer masks for vector precision. You'll also see how to achieve special effects using clipping groups, work with blending modes, and work with different types of channels.

LUNCH ON YOUR OWN (12:00–1:15)

Smart Objects and Smart Filters (1:15–2:15)

In this session, you'll learn how to work non-destructively using smart objects and smart filters. You'll learn why and when to use smart objects as well as see how they can be beneficial for bringing content from a program like Adobe Illustrator. Also see how to master smart filters by applying non-destructive filters, as well as masking and adjusting smart filters.

Compositing Techniques  (2:15–3:30)

We all need to combine images in one way or another. In this session, you'll learn some of the best techniques for combining images of different sizes and resolutions, as well as how to do things like: add depth, organize layers, add shadows and other layer styles, use masks, work with layer blending, layer comps for saving layer states and more.

BREAK (3:30-3:45)

Automate Photoshop (3:45–4:30)

Wrap up the day by learning how to let Photoshop do some of the work for you. In this session, we'll work with Adobe Bridge and Mini-Bridge and see how they can be used to speed up your Photoshop workflow. You'll learn how to use Photoshop actions to speed up every day things like saving a batch of images for the web or renaming a group of images. Not only will we create and edit Photoshop actions, but you'll learn how to apply those actions to a series of files using batches, and droplets.
