8/30/12

Seminar Schedule

  • Registration opens at 8:30am

    • Grids, Gaps, and Guides (9:00–10:00)

    • In this session, we will look at some of the precise layout tools introduced with InDesign CS4 and CS5. From CS4's Contact Sheet on import option, to Smart Guides, and CS5's Gap tool and placing frames in a grid. See how these tools will make laying out your documents go quicker and save you "clean up" time later.

      Working with Outsider Text (10:15–11:15)

Bringing in text from outside sources can be more than a little overwhelming. In this session, we'll cover text import options, bringing in existing styling, mapping to InDesign styles, using GREP to find and change text, and what to do if you want to start nearly from scratch.

Extending InDesign (Plugins, Scripts, Extensions) (11:30–12:15)

If you’re just using the features built in to InDesign, you’re not being efficient. Learn how scripts, plug-ins, and other add-ons can boost your productivity, automate mundane tasks, and increase your creative potential.

    • LUNCH ON YOUR OWN - 12:15 - 1:30 p.m.

Mastering InDesign Tables (1:30–2:30)

InDesign's table features offer incredible power for formatting not only tabular text and images, but for solving some unexpected layout problems as well. We'll de-mystify table styles and show how tables can work for you in all kinds of layout situations.

Getting Interactive in InDesign (2:45–3:45)

Learn how to make effective PDFs that include interactivity. We'll look at features in both InDesign CS4 and CS5 that allow you to create PDF documents with compelling features, including automatically generated bookmarks, hyperlinks and navigation. Then, we'll continue exploring InDesign's features for adding interactivity to documents, focusing on new features in CS5 that allow motion animation, timelines and multiple object states.

ePub Primer (4:00–4:15)

What is an ePub? What is it not? Why is InDesign the best tool for the job? Get a brief glimpse of how InDesign fits into the ePub and eBook workflow.

Problem? Solution. (4:15–4:45)

Everyone comes to these seminars with at least one burning question about InDesign that doesn’t get addressed during the day. Here’s your chance to ask that question, and learn something from the answers to your colleague’s questions.
