She regularly contributes to InDesign Magazine and Design Tools Monthly, is the author of The InDesigners Workbook series, and tech edited How To Do Everything with Adobe InDesign CS4 from McGraw-Hill Osborne. Erica is co-owner of Digital Dimensions with her husband, Jeff, and she is the co-chair of the Denver chapter of the Adobe InDesign User Group.

- Don't Reinvent the Wheel (9:00-10:00)As designers, we often find ourselves doing the same tasks over and over. Well, that can be a real waste of time…usually unbillable time. The great thing about InDesign is that it lends itself to automating tasks and re-using settings very well. In this session, we'll look at time-saving techniques for working with presets, libraries, templates, and other productivity tools.
Techniques for Working with Text (10:00-11:00)
InDesign is designed to work with text and provides a lot of tools for doing so. But many of these text functions sit unused for lack of understanding. Text techniques we'll cover include importing text and mapping styles, working with Track Changes and the Story Editor, as well as understanding Conditional Text and Bullets and Numbering.
BREAK 11:00-11:15
Jumping Around a Document (11:15-12:15)Navigation is important in an InDesign document, whether the file's final destination is print or digital. Pointing your readers in the right direction and giving them more info can be key to a well-designed document. In this session, we'll cover setting up hyperlinks and dynamic cross references and get a handle on InDesign's footnotes feature.- LUNCH ON YOUR OWN - 12:15 - 1:30 p.m.
Books and Long Documents (1:30-2:45)Whether your finished piece is a catalog or the next great novel, long documents need to be well-planned to handle the large amount of information. This session will cover InDesign's book feature, which allows you to organize individual documents into a larger volume. We will also look at other techniques used with long documents, including automating with master pages, using sections, and auto numbering. We'll tie it all together with an auto-generated table of contents. These techniques will be beneficial to both the print and digital document creator.
BREAK 2:45-3:00
Interactive Documents (3:00-4:00)Interactivity is one of those buzzwords print designers often cringe at. Don't despair, though! This broad-reaching word covers everything from creating Flash-based navigation to a simple, yet interactive, PDF to be used as a digital brochure or portfolio. We'll explore the interactive features of InDesign, including buttons, rollovers, animation, navigation, and the addition of audio and video.
Tips, Tricks, and Keyboard Shortcuts (4:00-4:25)The tips and tricks in this session will give you quicker and easier ways to perform repetitive tasks, as well as show you keyboard shortcuts that will keep your fingers on the keys – maybe even cutting down on repetitive stress injuries from mousing to the menu for everything!
Problem? Solution. (4:25-4:45)Everyone comes to these seminars with at least one burning question about InDesign that doesn’t get addressed during the day. Here’s your chance to ask that question, and learn something from the answers to your colleague’s questions.-
