  • About the Instructor

  • After a successful career in advertising, Sandee Cohen has been teaching computer graphics for 20 years. A popular and exciting speaker, she has taught at Macworld Expo, the Creative Suite Conference, The InDesign Conference, as well as conferences in Australia, England, Denmark, Sweden, and South Africa.

    She has written over 20 books for Peachpit Press, as well as articles for CreativePro.com, InDesign Magazine, InDesignSecrets.com, and Seybold Reports.

    She is the co-author of Real World Creative Suite and the senior editor for InDesign Magazine. Sandee is also a frequent contributor to the AskMogo video podcasts. She has provided training to private corporations, ad agencies, publishers, as well New York University, Parsons School of Design, Cooper Union, and University of Hawaii.

    • Welcome and Introductions (9:15-9:30)

      Sandee provides an overview of the topic and the day's lessons.

    • Understanding the Adobe Interface (9:30–10:00)

      To become effcient with the Suite, you need to understand how the applications are similar... and different! Discover cool shortcuts to quickly control palette clutter, how to customize keyboard shortcuts and even menus.

      Moving Paths and Layers between the Applications (10:00–11:00)

      How can you move layers from Illustrator into Photoshop? How can InDesign recognize Photoshop’s Layer Comps? How can you convert Photoshop’s paths into InDesign? Or the paths from InDesign into Illustrator? And how can you use Smart Objects from Illustrator into Photoshop? We've got answers to all these questions, and more.

    • Type Magic (11:15–12:15)

    • OpenType is more than just a cross-platform font format. Discover why all the Creative Suite applications thrive on OpenType fonts. Find out the benefits of OpenType for working with fractions, small caps, and number formats. Learn the inner workings of Illustrator's and InDesign's Glyphs panels.

    • The Power of Bridge for Layout and Design (1:15–1:45)

      Discover what makes Bridge much more than just a file browser for images. Discover how this incredible (but underused) program can automate your work, provide information about files, and even help you layout your InDesign pages. Plus, see how to use Bridge to manage Photoshop's metadata and use it in InDesign.

      Mastering Transparency (1:45–2:30)

      Transparency effects are cool, but you need to learn to use them properly. Here's your guide to working safely and creatively with transparency. Learn what transparency effects do (and don't) work between the suite applications. Discover the simple steps to make sure your transparency effects will print correctly before you send them to the print shop.

      Consistent Colors (2:30-3:15)

      How do you get the colors in all the suite applications to match onscreen as well as in print? What’s the easiest way to set color management controls? And how can you swap colors between the various applications? This session will color you brilliant!

    • Preflight, PDF, and Print (3:30-4:30)

      Don’t send your precious projects off until you make sure they’re set up correctly for either print or PDF output. Armed with these steps, you’ll never have to worry “But will it print?”

  • Wrap up (4:30-4:45)

    Here’s your chance to ask those last-minute questions or go over your own workflow issues.
